Temple Beth Sholom (TBS) is a welcoming and inclusive sacred community that connects its members to one another, Judaism, and Israel through interactive spiritual, educational, and social experiences. TBS is a Conservative synagogue consisting of more than 800 families. In addition to its clergy and staff, TBS has many groups and committees that immerse congregants of all ages in Jewish life and learning.
We are seeking a full-time Controller for direct hire.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Oversee the monthly financial statement preparation, month-end close process and cash management
• Assist Executive Director with the development and implementation of fiscal policies and procedures
• Review journal entries, subsidiary ledgers, and reconciliations to general ledger
• Performs monthly bank reconciliations for all cash accounts
• Manages daily cash flow requirements, including transfer of funds
• Prepares and inputs payroll (and related benefits) allocation journal entries
• Prepares schedules for worker's comp audit at year end
• Prepares 1099 forms for independent contractors
• Prepares monthly deferred revenue schedules
• Develops and maintains a financial reporting calendar
• Prepares departmental budget reports, tracks budget variances, and works with department directors to monitor unfavorable variances
• Initiates the preparation of the annual budget and year-end projections
• Inputs budgets into the accounting system
• As needed, answer accounting and financial questions from the Executive Director
• Serve as financial liaison to Treasurer, Budget Chair and Finance Committee, with ability as subject matter expert to communicate concisely and articulately timely, relevant financial information
• Proactively review financial reporting and be able to address anomalies and variances
• Provides support during the annual financial statement audit
• Reconcile payments and endowment funds
• Serve as backup for accounting staff

QUALIFICATIONS and REQUIREMENTS:

• Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance
• Five or more year's accounting experience required
• Non-profit experience preferred
• Demonstrated proficiency in MS Excel and Word
• Demonstrated knowledge of financial reporting
• Superior attention to detail with excellent analytical skills
• Knowledge of Sage or other computerized general ledger software
