Boston Jewish Film - Artistic Director

Boston Jewish Film seeks an Artistic Director to set the artistic direction for the organization and curate two annual festivals, year-round screenings, and related programs.

Responsibilities include:

1. Provide inspirational artistic leadership
2. Curate programs • Create schedule of screenings and events throughout the year • Research, solicit, screen and select films and other related media (e.g., television series) for the November Festival and Israeli Festival, as well as year-round screenings and special events • Negotiate terms with filmmakers and distributors
3. Cultivate strong relationships with filmmakers, distributors, and members of the Greater Boston film and Jewish cultural communities
4. Provide Marketing Support • Manage creation of Festival trailer • Help identify segmented audiences for each film • Assist in writing marketing-oriented descriptions for brochure and other collateral • Be prepared to speak with press
5. Curate films, engage guests, create and moderate Q&A for BJF educational program to combat antisemitism
6. Support Executive Director with fund raising effort
7. Board Relations • Ensure board involvement and enthusiasm for Festival and other year-round events.

The ideal candidate will have:

1. At least 7 years of arts and culture work experience
2. Demonstrated ability to curate and present a media arts series
3. Experience in, and understanding of, the changing media and film festival environment
4. Superior oral and written communication skills; comfortable public speaker
5. Passion for cinema, and knowledge of Jewish culture and history
6. Familiarity with Boston’s film, arts, and culture landscape
