Boston Jewish Film seeks an Artistic Director to set the artistic direction for the organization and curate two annual festivals, year-round screenings, and related programs.
Responsibilities include:
- Provide inspirational artistic leadership
- Curate programs • Create schedule of screenings and events throughout the year • Research, solicit, screen and select films and other related media (e.g., television series) for the November Festival and Israeli Festival, as well as year-round screenings and special events • Negotiate terms with filmmakers and distributors
- Cultivate strong relationships with filmmakers, distributors, and members of the Greater Boston film and Jewish cultural communities
- Provide Marketing Support • Manage creation of Festival trailer • Help identify segmented audiences for each film • Assist in writing marketing-oriented descriptions for brochure and other collateral • Be prepared to speak with press
- Curate films, engage guests, create and moderate Q&A for BJF educational program to combat antisemitism
- Support Executive Director with fund raising effort
- Board Relations • Ensure board involvement and enthusiasm for Festival and other year-round events.
The ideal candidate will have:
- At least 7 years of arts and culture work experience
- Demonstrated ability to curate and present a media arts series
- Experience in, and understanding of, the changing media and film festival environment
- Superior oral and written communication skills; comfortable public speaker
- Passion for cinema, and knowledge of Jewish culture and history
- Familiarity with Boston’s film, arts, and culture landscape
