Director of Music

Join the best team! Temple Emanu-El is a vibrant Reform Jewish temple in beautiful Sarasota, Florida. We are hiring a part time Director of Music to lead the congregation in joyful, spiritual music. We are seeking a passionate, creative director for services primarily on Friday evenings and some Saturdays. Competitive, Salaried Part-Time Position approximately 10 hours per week. Responsibilities include: • In collaboration with the Rabbi and Ritual Committee, build and lead musical content of weekly Shabbat prayer services and holiday celebrations that inspire and engage the community. • Manage the choir to include hiring, training, rehearsals, scheduling and special holiday compositions. • In coordination with the Rabbi, identify and introduce new music to the congregational repertoire. • Opportunities to participate in special events and to lead musical programming across all ages. • Working with the in-house technical committee, oversee the set up and coordination of musical instruments and sound system. • Other musical projects, as needed. Desired Qualifications: • Familiarity of Jewish music, prayer repertoire and liturgical Hebrew • Vocal and instrumental arrangement and composition • Musical skills including singing and instrumental accompaniment on guitar/piano/organ or similar instrument, desirable • Ability to lead others in song and creatively engage with people of all ages • Excellent communication, coordination, technology, and time management skills • Acceptance of and commitment to Temple Emanu-El’s vision, mission and values listed on www.sarasotatemple.org • Ability to pass a Level II background screening • This is not an all-inclusive job description.
