JOB DESCRIPTION We are a Conservative synagogue in coastal Portland, Maine seeking a dynamic leader to steer and expand Kadima Beth El (KBE), our temple’s Jewish pre-kindergarten through high school education program. The Education Director will cultivate a joyful, enriching experience with a focus on teaching Jewish values, culture, and tradition for 75+ students.
The Education Director is a full-time position.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES - KADIMA BETH EL Evaluate and develop KBE curriculum, creating a well-structured, comprehensive scope and sequence Collaborate with teachers to help them create dynamic, engaging lessons Recruit, train, and supervise teachers, tutors, and madrichim (post B’nai Mitzvah aides) Work with the leadership team and clergy to ensure programming aligns with Temple Beth El’s mission and core values Coordinate programs that allow students and families to build lasting relationships (e.g. holiday events, Shabbat dinners, group trips, etc.) Set and oversee the KBE budget in conjunction with the Executive Director and Treasurer Maintain communication through KBE social media, weekly school-wide emails, and community updates Attend weekly staff meetings and school committee meetings Organize and distribute a school calendar and calendar of events
IF TIME PERMITS, OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES COULD INCLUDE: Consulting and coordinating with the Adult Learning Committee Working with clergy to integrate children’s programming into overall ritual/spiritual programs
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE HAS: Experience teaching and/or directing Jewish youth of various ages Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills Expertise in organization and management A warm and approachable nature A passion for building community and inspiring children to love their Jewish heritage
