Congregation Shomrei Torah is a thriving Jewish spiritual community in Santa Rosa, CA, with over 480 household members, known for our welcoming and inclusive approach, accessible ritual practice, and wide range of classes and programs that offer meaningful educational and spiritual (and fun) experiences for all ages.

Position Overview:
The Manager of Operations and Finance is a new leadership role responsible for overseeing the financial and operational functions of the community. This individual will ensure smooth daily operations, financial sustainability, and a well-managed facility, while fostering a collaborative and mission-driven work environment.

Reporting directly to the Executive Director and working closely with clergy, staff, and lay leadership, the Manager of Operations and Finance plays a critical role in supporting the synagogue’s long-term growth and stability.

Key Responsibilities
Operations (40%):
● Oversee daily operations, including event management and staffing, facilities management, vendor contracts, and technology systems.
● Manage relationships and contracts with external contractors, including educators, security, facility repairs/maintenance, and service providers.
● Negotiate cost-effective agreements while ensuring high-quality service.

Financial Oversight (30%):
● Work closely with the Finance Committee, producing financial and operational reports to guide decision-making.
● Develop and manage the annual budget in partnership with the Executive Director, VP of Finance and Finance Committee.
● Work with the VP of Finance and Finance Committee to maintain fiscal responsibility and transparency.
● Ensure timely financial reporting
• Monitor cash flow
• Oversee accounts payable/receivable
• grant management
• Oversee expense tracking.
● Work with accountants to ensure timely and accurate reporting, audits, and tax filings.
• Oversee Accounts Payable

Staff Management (20%):
● Manage operations, facilities, and event staff, fostering a positive and collaborative work environment.
● Support hiring, onboarding, and talent development processes, and organize annual training (security, active shooter, etc.)
• Supervise our facility attendant and custodial team and oversee building maintenance, repairs, and capital improvements.

Facilities & Security (10%):
● Coordinate security and security measures, working with the Security Committee, local authorities, and security professionals to ensure a safe environment.
• Oversee facility setup and turnover from one event to the next.

• Desired Qualifications and Skills:
● 2+ years of experience in nonprofit operations, synagogue management, or relevant experience.
● Strong financial acumen, including budgeting, financial reporting, and contract negotiation.
● Experience managing staff.
● Skilled to collaborate with clergy, staff, and lay leadership in a mission-driven environment.
● Excellent problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills.
● Knowledge of facility management and security best practices.
● Strong technology acumen and deep familiarity with relevant digital tools.
• Experience with QuickBooks is a plus
● Understanding of and appreciation for Jewish communal life, values, and traditions preferred.

Compensation & Benefits
● Salary: $70,000-74,000 (commensurate with experience)
