The Ramaz Upper School seeks to hire a full-time CHOIR DIRECTOR/MUSIC TEACHER. This position will report to the Upper School Principal and begins in August/September 2025. This is an exceptional opportunity for an experienced and qualified candidate to be working at the forefront of nurturing musical talent and appreciation in a setting well-known for the quality of the program.

The award-winning upper school co-ed chorus, and chamber choir are widely regarded as one of the finest Jewish Day School choirs in the world and they play a central role at the School as well as in the wider community.

Choral Responsibilities include:

• Developing the potential choir members as chorus participants, soloists,and conductors.
• Working within the guidance of school leadership to select appropriate music (Judaic, Israeli and secular).
• Organizing auditions and rehearsals and creating an environment where students are able to actively engage with choir activities, while supporting the students and faculty colleagues by ensuring a manageable balance between the members’ academic workload, other co-curricular activities and mental health.
• Planning and facilitating performances, including but not limited to the Ramaz annual dinner, school assemblies. community events, annual choir trip and occasional weekend events.
• Partnering with Upper School leadership and the Business office to manage the choir budget and activities

Responsibilities include:
• Teaching music curriculum courses such as music appreciation, music theory and other classes based on ability and familiarity. This includes providing assessments, grading and feedback.
• Partnering with departmental colleagues on planning.
• Other duties associated with teaching such as classroom coverage, lunchroom/hallway supervision, and communicating with parents.
• Other reasonable activities as directed by the school leadership.

Skills:
• A proven ability to motivate and inspire choir members.
• An understanding of the importance of effective and appropriate communication with the choir and other stakeholders.
• Strong organizational and time management skills to plan rehearsals, performances, and administrative tasks.
• Being able to engage collaboratively with other colleagues, departments, musicians, staff and members of the community.
Qualifications:
• A bachelor's or advanced degree in music, music education, or a related field.
• At least 5 years experience in choral leadership and education in Jewish settings, and working with diverse musical styles.
Salary Range: The salary range is $80,000 - $120,000, commensurate with relevant experience and education.
