Judaic Studies Director and Senior Educator

Position Summary
Hillel Community Day School is seeking a dynamic and visionary Judaic Studies Director and Senior Educator. This dual-role position leads the Judaic Studies department, guides school-wide Jewish learning experiences, and serves as a senior member of the academic leadership team. The Director oversees curriculum development, faculty mentoring, and community engagement initiatives aligned with Hillel's mission, vision, halachic values, and inclusive diversity. This individual collaborates closely with the Head of School, IB PYP Coordinator, and General Studies team to ensure alignment across disciplines. This is a 12-month faculty position, requiring active engagement during the academic year and through summer planning, coordination, and community events. This role spans grades Pre-K through 8 and includes leadership in the implementation of behavioral initiatives that support positive school-wide and classroom behavior. The salary range for this position is $68,000–$73,000 annually.
Key Responsibilities
• Serve as lead teacher in Judaic Studies with instructional excellence and model pedagogy.
• Teach Chumash, Tanach, Mishna, Midot, Parshat Hashavua, Jewish History, and Israel Education.
• Lead, develop, and coordinate Judaic Studies curriculum for grades K–6 in alignment with IB PYP and Jewish values.
• Mentor Judaic faculty and facilitate department collaboration, coaching, and goal setting.
• Oversee department mission, tefillah programming, and holiday/Israel education.
• Design and ensure execution of community events and school-wide programs including Shabbos Showcase, holiday celebrations, and the Modi’in partnership.
• Act as halachic and spiritual advisor in partnership with the school rabbi and leadership.
• Facilitate faculty meetings, curricular documentation, IBD unit development, and professional learning.
• Collaborate with leadership to evaluate student learning outcomes and school benchmarks.
• Support departmental hiring, onboarding, and talent retention.
• Maintain strong partnerships with parents, community members, and institutional stakeholders.
• Contribute to strategic planning, accreditation processes, and IB authorization efforts.
• Design and implement schoolwide and classroom behavior management strategies that foster a positive and respectful learning environment.
• Collaborate with faculty and leadership to ensure consistent application of behavioral expectations aligned with school values.
Qualifications
• Proven excellence in teaching Judaic Studies with deep content knowledge of Torah, Mitzvot, Hebrew, and Jewish holidays.
• Leadership experience within a Jewish day school or religious educational setting.
• Strong skills in mentoring, communication, curricular planning, and faculty coordination.
• Familiarity with IB PYP or other inquiry-based and transdisciplinary models preferred.
• Hebrew fluency strongly preferred.
• Tal Am, JSAT, and iHebrew familiarity is a plus.
• Demonstrated commitment to the State of Israel, inclusive diversity, and halachic values.
• Master’s degree in Judaic Studies or Jewish Education required.
• Degree or certification in general education strongly preferred.
• Fluency in Hebrew language required.
• Minimum of 5 years leadership experience in a Jewish educational setting.

Evaluation Metrics and Reporting Structure
• Reports directly to the Head of School and collaborates closely with the IB PYP Coordinator.
• Evaluation will be based on the following criteria:

• Quality of faculty mentorship and professional development facilitation.
• Demonstrated student growth in Judaic knowledge, Hebrew language, and character development.
• Execution and impact of school-wide Jewish programming and celebrations.
• Leadership in fostering a positive, respectful, and inclusive behavioral culture.
