Position Summary
Kerem Shalom, a vibrant, progressive synagogue in Concord, Massachusetts with 250 member families, seeks an experienced, creative, inspiring, and compassionate educator to serve as our full-time Director of Congregational Learning (DCL). Working in close partnership with our Rabbi, the DCL will develop, implement, and refine a shared vision of learning that utilizes an engaging, meaningful, and holistic curriculum to inspire youth, family, and adult congregants. This position offers an exciting opportunity to lead innovative educational programming rooted in our six Learning Pillars: Kehillah (Community), Simchah (Joy), K'vod Ha-B'riyot (Dignity of Every Person), Naaseh V'Nishmah (Learning by Doing), Al Pi Darko (Our Own Paths), and Avodah She-Ba-Lev (Spirituality).
Primary Responsibilities
The DCL will plan, oversee, and administer our Hebrew School Reimagined program and other religious, community, and educational programs for youth and their families. They will have primary responsibility for designing curriculum, hiring and supervising teachers, preparing budgets, and overseeing parent communication and engagement.
Key Program Areas
• Hebrew School Reimagined (HSR): Weekly after-school program for grades 1-6 featuring Jewish explorations, electives (culinary arts, visual arts, ASL, music, movement, drama, storytelling), and Hebrew instruction
• Family Education: Grade-specific programs integrating parents and children in shared Jewish learning experiences
• 7th Grade Cohort: Weekly evening sessions for b'nai mitzvah preparation including values-based mitzvah projects
• Early Childhood Programming: Monthly preschool/kindergarten holiday explorations and Tot Shabbat celebrations
• Teen Programs: Educational and service opportunities for post-b'nai mitzvah students, including madrichim/ot leadership roles
• Holiday Celebrations: Family-friendly community celebrations for major Jewish holidays
• Adult Education: Collaborative development of educational, cultural, spiritual, and social programming for adult learners
Qualifications
• Master's degree in Jewish Education, Jewish Studies, Education, or related field (or Rabbi-Educator)
• Demonstrated experience in Jewish educational programming and curriculum development
• Proven track record in classroom teaching and educator supervision/mentoring
• Experience working with interfaith families and diverse Jewish communities
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with ability to connect across age groups
• Strong management and administrative abilities
• Child-centered educational philosophy recognizing individual learning styles and
abilities
• Experience with students with special needs preferred
Compensation & Benefits
• Salary: $85,000 - $95,000 annually, commensurate with experience
