Job Description

The Receptionist is the primary face and voice of Oak Park Temple, greeting congregants, prospective members, and guests warmly in person and over the phone. Reporting to the Temple Administrator, this role ensures smooth daily office functions by handling essential front-desk duties, managing internal databases, and supporting community communications. We are looking for an organized, detail-oriented team player who handles shifting priorities with a calm demeanor.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities -

Congregational & Visitor Relations Act as the primary, welcoming, and consistent point of contact for members, prospective members, and guests arriving at the Temple. Professionally answer phone calls, handle public inquiries, and take detailed, accurate messages when necessary. Maintain a high level of confidentiality and discretion regarding sensitive congregant information and synagogue business.

Daily Operations & Administrative Support -

Support the daily business operations of the synagogue administrative office. Perform routine data entry and database management, ensuring internal records remain accurate and up to date. Assist with general clerical duties, including filing, processing mail, and managing office supplies. Ensure a high standard of accuracy and professional visual presentation for printed and electronic office documents. Perform other related office duties as assigned by administrative leadership.

Staff & Community Collaboration -

Work cooperatively alongside volunteers, teachers, staff, and students to coordinate day-to-day building activities. Adapt flexibly to changing operational needs and take on new administrative challenges as requested by leadership.

Required Qualifications Experience: Demonstrated successful experience in an office, administrative support, or customer-facing role.
Technical Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and Google Workspace, with a proven ability to learn new databases and systems quickly.
Skills & Abilities: Excellent communication skills, sound judgment, close attention to detail, and comfort interacting with a diverse staff and public (including children and volunteers). Details Schedule & Location: Full-time, in-person (Monday–Friday, 9:00 am–5:00 pm). Our location features ample on-site parking and easy access to public transit.
Timeline: Newly created position tentatively scheduled to begin in August 2026.
Compensation: $18.00 to $20.00 per hour, based on qualifications, experience, and internal equity.
