Job Description

We need a strategic Finance and Data Analyst to join the finance team of a modern reform NYC synagogue that is involved in numerous social and philanthropic initiatives. Working under, and in collaboration with, the Director of Finance, you will oversee daily accounting operations, including and assist in - producing timely and accurate financial information.

You will be involved in:

FINANCE and REPORTING ANALYSIS: *Assisting in the preparation and consolidation of monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP. *Performing detailed variance analysis to explain fluctuations in budget vs actual performance. *Helping to formulate short and long-term financial forecasts and assisting with the annual budgeting process.

ACCOUNTING & OPERATIONS LEADERSHIP: *Overseeing the daily operations of the accounting department, including A/P, A/R and payroll functions. *Managing the monthly, quarterly and year-end close processes to ensure timely and accurate general ledger updates.

COMPLIANCE & AUDIT PREPARATION: *Ensuring strict compliance with US GAAP, company policies, and other relevant regulatory standards. *Preparing detailed schedules, work papers, and documentation required for external and internal financial audits. *Developing and implementing internal control policies and procedures to safeguard company assets and prevent inaccuracies.

PROCESS IMPROVEMENT: *Identifying bottlenecks in accounting processes and implementing automated solutions and workflow enhancements. *Assising in the optimization of Saleforce, Fun-EZ, and other supporting software.

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS: *Bachelor's degree in accounting preferred or a related discipline. *At least 3-5 years experience in accounting or financial role with some supervisory experience preferred (not essential). *Please note: Less experience will be considered for an exceptional candidate. *CPA or CMA eligible, but not at all required. *Strong knowledge of US GAAP. *Non-profit accounting is helpful, but not mandatory. *Advanced Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, data modeling, VLOOKUPs). Experience with Salesforce and Fund-EZ.
