About AYC

American Youth Camping is a new network of five independent overnight camps in New York and Maine. Our campers include Jewish and non-Jewish young people, and our camps have a large domestic and international Jewish/non-Jewish staff. We build joyful camp communities where Jewish young people grow proud of who they are, and where friends of every background come to know, understand, and care about the Jewish people.

The Role

AYC is hiring its first Director of Recruitment and Marketing. This is a builder role with two purposes:

  • Support the camper and staff recruiting efforts of member camps: create awareness of our member camps, support their recruiting efforts, identify camper/staff leads and connect them to our member camps
  • Market and grow awareness of AYC as an organization: support building the AYC brand, and raise awareness of AYC nationally, regionally and locally

The Fit

The Director of Recruitment and Marketing is a strategic, creative leader responsible for executing a comprehensive organizational marketing strategy, supporting camper/staff recruiting efforts at our member camps, strengthening our national brand, expanding awareness and engagement, and driving measurable organizational and member growth in campers and staff.

You are passionate, innovative, creative, courageous, and love camp. You are committed to positive excellence and growth in the areas of marketing, branding, recruiting, and leadership outcomes. You are equally at home working at a strategic and tactical level, in the boardroom, with our high-level partners, in the living room with potential campers/parents, and on the campsite.

Responsibilities

  • Marketing strategy and leadership: support building the AYC marketing strategy, including conducting national, regional and local discovery and implementing the strategy to expand reach, visibility, participation and influence
  • Strategic camper partnerships: in collaboration with CEO and Senior Advisor, steward strategic partnerships with national Jewish Camping organizations, Jewish organizations, Federations and Foundations to maximize organizational outcomes including creating camper pipelines, identifying camper leads, and driving enrollments for our member camps
  • Network of local camp recruiters: hire, train, supervise and evaluate a network of local camp recruiters to identify/generate leads for our network of camps to support enrollment growth
  • Strategic staffing partnerships: steward strategic partnerships with national Jewish Camping organizations, Jewish organizations, Federations and Foundations to maximize organizational outcomes including creating camper pipelines, identifying camper leads, and driving enrollments for our member camps
  • Digital marketing, marketing collateral and communications: work with Director of Operations on the organization's website, email marketing, social media, digital advertising, and other communication channels; develop integrated marketing campaigns that increase awareness, engagement, and conversion; leverage analytics, audience segmentation, and emerging technologies to optimize marketing effectiveness; guide content creation, including videos, publications, newsletters, and digital storytelling; create AYC marketing collateral to drive awareness, educate stakeholders and support national, regional and local marketing efforts
  • Conferences + camper and staff fairs: identify, plan strategies for and attend national, regional and local conferences and camp fairs to promote AYC and our member camps

Year-One Success

  • A robust organizational marketing plan for AYC including channels, audiences, messages, timelines, key performance indicators and budget impact
  • A social media strategy, creation of AYC social media accounts on platforms and meaningful movement in content creation, followers, likes and shares
  • Full landscape analysis of potential strategic partners, conferences, and camp fairs, building meaningful relationships and creating a handful of key strategic partnerships in both camper and staff spaces that yield new camper/staff placements for our member camps

Qualifications

  • 3–5+ years of progressively responsible marketing experience, including leadership responsibilities with significant overnight camp or comparable immersive experience
  • Bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, business, or a related field
  • Demonstrated success developing and implementing integrated marketing strategies
  • Experience in brand management, digital marketing, audience engagement, and campaign development
  • Strong writing, storytelling, sales/recruiting, strategic thinking, and analytical skills
  • Experience managing budgets, teams, vendors, and multiple organizational priorities
  • Understanding of the Jewish communal landscape, Jewish Camping, Jewish identity, and nonprofit organizations strongly preferred
  • Commitment to the organization's mission, values, and impact
